The Outdoor Chaise lounge... let's face it, there is something almost poetic about a warm day by the water—the sun glinting off the surface, a cool drink in hand, and the gentle rustle of palm leaves or breeze through nearby trees. But to truly enjoy that moment—to stretch it into something restorative and indulgent—you need the right place to relax. That’s why you will want a chaise lounge- pool side.
Why the appeal of the Outdoor Chaise Lounge?
Let’s be honest—part of the appeal is psychological. A chaise lounge adds a touch of luxury. It’s the kind of furniture you find at high-end resorts or spa retreats, and by having one (or a few) poolside, I’m creating that same sense of escape in my own backyard.
This isn’t just about convenience—it’s about intention. Adding a chaise lounge turns the pool area from something functional into a destination. It says: this is a place to unwind, to be present, to breathe deeply.
But it's not just about practicality. Outdoor chaise lounges also enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor décor. They come in a variety of styles, allowing you to create a cohesive look that reflects your personal taste.
Low maintenance and high reward, these lounges are a long-term investment in your outdoor lifestyle. They transform your outdoor area into a luxurious retreat, encouraging you to spend more time in the fresh air and natural light.
For the purpose of this article, we will not only explore the many benefits of outdoor chaise lounges for relaxation. We will look at how to protect the frame of your chaise lounge; why you want a chaise lounge with an outdoor cushion and not sling fabric; what to look for in a quality cushion; quality foam- invest in the best; and outdoor covers for your chaise lounge.

How to choose an Outdoor Chaise frame that will last
A chaise lounge with quality outdoor cushion is not cheap. So, lets discuss how to select and maintain your outdoor furniture.
At Riviera Outdoor Décor, we believe in geographic tailoring for outdoor furniture. That is smart design when it comes to outdoor furnishings. A “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn’t work well in outdoor furniture, since environments differ dramatically. Custom selection is better for durability, customer satisfaction and sustainability. For a more detailed analysis on geographical tailoring for outdoor furniture, please read our article on "Outdoor Kitchens and Furniture for Different Climate Conditions".
At Riviera Outdoor Décor, since we are most familiar with coastal outdoor living, that is what we will discuss. In our area, we leave our chaise lounge out 24/7/365. If our chaise lounge can stay out all year and last fifteen years or more, and withstand coastal, marine conditions of salt, humidity and intense sun- we have a good reference point.
The materials I prefer for coastal areas:
Teak wood – Naturally resistant to salt, water, and rot.
Marine-grade stainless steel – Resists rust and corrosion..
Powder-coated cast aluminum – rust-resistant, cast aluminum does have some weight to it.
Maintenance of the outdoor frame
Just as your indoor furniture requires dusting, so does your outdoor furniture. Weekly, it should be wiped down and clean. Your outdoor furniture may have a cover, however it should be wiped down, cleaned and inspected weekly. We also recommend polishing and sealing your outdoor furniture monthly. Please refer to your owners manual for specific instructions
The Outdoor Cushion- Protect the frame of the Chaise Lounge
Not only should the outdoor cushion for your chaise lounge provide total comfort, It is the outdoor cushion that actually protects the frame from intense sun, wind and rain. So, do not skimp on a quality outdoor cushion or cover. Quality outdoor cushions are not cheap initially, but will save you money long-term versus constant replacement. At Riviera Outdoor Décor, we are well known for our marine grade outdoor cushions and pillows that are found in homes and resorts across the country. Believe it or not, your outdoor cushion and pillow can and should last fifteen years or more.
A note about the Outdoor Fabric Choice
Although the fabric may be labeled 'outdoor fabric', it may not be a solution-dyed acrylic fabric. What is the difference in the fabric? Picture the difference between the color of a carrot which goes all the way through, and a radish which only has the color on the outside. That is the real difference in a solution dyed outdoor fabric (carrot) and a fabric labeled 'outdoor fabric' (radish). In essence, with a solution dyed fabric the fabrics are dyed all the way through while other outdoor fabrics only have the color stamped on the outside. For us at Riviera Outdoor Décor, Sunbrella fabric is the gold standard for a chaise lounge cushion.
Selection of Outdoor Foam for the Cushion and Pillow
Not all outdoor foam is the same. The outdoor foam should allow for water to pass through immediately. No water should remain in your outdoor cushion or pillow at any time. There are certain manufacturing techniques that allow the cushion to automatically drain the water. And, if the water does happen to get into the cushion it will automatically drain. This prevents your outdoor cushion and pillow from holding any kind of mold.
Maintenance of the outdoor cushion
At Riviera Outdoor Décor, we recommend a minimal of deep cleaning, inspection and restoration of the finish to your outdoor cushion once a year, or preferably, twice a year. At Riviera Outdoor Décor, we offer a concierge service to clean, restore and repair outdoor cushions for our clients who have purchased furniture or custom cushions from us.

The Outdoor Furniture Cover
Any Outdoor Chaise Lounge comes with a complimentary outdoor cushion cover when purchased from Riviera Outdoor Decor. Or, any Custom-Made Replacement outdoor cushion will receive an outdoor furniture cover at a 35% discount.
Conclusion- Creating My Own Resort Experience at Home
Adding a chaise lounge turns the pool area from something functional into a destination. It says: this is a place to unwind, to be present, to breathe deeply.
In a busy world filled with constant notifications, tasks, and noise, we are all craving more than just comfort—we are looking for calm. A chaise lounge by the pool becomes a personal recharge station, a place where I can unplug, stretch out, and enjoy the moment.
Whether I’m watching the kids swim, catching up on a novel, or simply listening to the birds and water lapping nearby, the chaise lounge isn’t just furniture—it’s a symbol of slow living.
